CHALLENGE
The construction of the Museum of The Future was an architectural and an engineering brilliance. It confidently bridged the past and the future with its form embodying vision, aspirations, and a sneak peek at what it’s like for humanity’s next chapter of innovation and technological advancement.
Gibca had the privilege of working on this iconic project. During the installation phase for the Museum of the Future, it presented our team with specific challenges. One of the significant hurdles was fulfilling the client’s request for a unique checker plate finish on one side of the bottom panels of the Skyfold Classic system in the loading bay area. This requirement necessitated a cohesive integration with the surrounding elements while maintaining the overall aesthetic.
Additionally, the limited space near the lobby area posed complexities during the installation of Hufcor Operable Partitions. Precisely positioning the partitions at the edge of the lower concrete slab must ensure door stability and functionality within the confined space.
Achieving a seamless alignment of the Hufcor Weather Resistant Glass Wall with the external façade for the restaurant area also proved to be a demanding task. Careful consideration of the glass walls’ curvature was vital to harmonize with the elevation above the track and complement the iconic Emirates Tower backdrop.
SOLUTION
Innovative solutions were devised to overcome these challenges successfully. To meet the unique checker plate finish request, our team creatively utilized Formica laminated deco metal, providing a close resemblance to the desired look while maintaining structural integrity and functionality of the Skyfold Classic system.
For the Hufcor 631 Partitions that have a height of 4000mm and width of 4500mm, a specialized projected secondary support system was engineered to carry the weight of the panels and securely positioning it at the edge of the lower concrete slab, optimizing the space in the lift lobby area.
To achieve a seamless alignment for the Hufcor Weather Resistant Glass Wall, meticulous track modifications were undertaken. This precision allowed the curvature of the glass walls to perfectly complement the elevation above the track, creating a visually stunning effect in harmony with the Emirates Tower backdrop. Overall, the installation of Skyfold Classic, Hufcor 631 Partitions, and Hufcor Weather Resistant Glass Wall provided the museum with flexible and adaptable spaces, much to the client’s delight.
Working closely with Killa Design, Buro Happold, and Bam Higgs and Hills was amazing.
