Hufcor Operable Partition, Series 631

CHALLENGE

The American University of Sharjah, established in 1997 is a renowned educational institution offering distinctive learning opportunities in leading academic fields including medical, engineering, law and fine arts. The university ground houses 14 colleges and offers +85 diverse academic programs. The building facility, specifically the onsite function hall and multipurpose hall hosts numerous conferences, corporate and alumni meetings throughout the year. The multipurpose hall also divides into classrooms which could result in the space being used for an event while a class is in session on the other side of the room concurrently. Thus, space is required to be flexible for modification allowing the staff to move smoothly and quickly with the changing set-up requirements. The challenge was not just to create a space that could change depending on the size and purpose of the gathering but to also offer effective sound and sight separation. The design team also needed to create a stacking system for the panels in a tight space while ensuring proper maneuvering of panels in a confined pocket area.

SOLUTION

Gibca worked in collaboration with the client’s project team to tackle these challenges and to effectively create a multi-purpose space. Our team knew the solution was Hufcor world-class custom operable walls that give any space the fluidity to change efficiently while providing the desired level of acoustic privacy to its occupants. Hufcor Series 631 omni-directional panels come with an acoustic rating of 51 STC. This gives the environment the privacy needed to conduct learning in a classroom setting while there is maybe an event in progress on the other side of the hall.

Omni-directional panels can be remotely stacked so when not in use the partition can be neatly folded without obstructing the floor. Another advantage of the omni-directional panels is its ability to negotiate turns and bends along the transfer tracks which facilitated the aberrant panel parking in the project. The Hufcor 600 Series panels move effortlessly on an overhead aluminum tracking system that offers guaranteed durability and efficient operation. Gibca also applied exquisite pure white laminate finish on the panels surface giving it a smooth and polished appearance.

RESULT

Hufcor 600 Series operable partition was used for providing ideal flexibility in the function hall and in between the multipurpose hall and classrooms. This provided the client with an effective solution for dividing the space on demand and to provide a physical separation without compromising the acoustical properties of the room. The Hufcor 631 Series operable wall is used to provide superior sound separation in the function hall boosting the multifunctionality of the space. Series 631 operable partition provides a 51 STC barrier between the classrooms and in the multi-purpose function hall. This rating meets the acoustical separation recommend by the Acoustical Society of America standards for designing educational learning spaces with optimal audio intelligibility.
